Description of the work

  • Media Mixed Media with Korean Mulberry Paper
  • Location LOTTE HOTEL SEOUL MAIN TOWER 1F
The round and oval-shaped black hemispheres and whirlwind-like images are the product of an artistic desire to create strong tension and dramatic movement over the canvas, as well as a metaphor with multiple meanings. The confidential
documents of governments show black bars over censored parts even after their
period of confidentiality has expired. These black bars serve not only as a permanent termination of sensitive information, but also as a metaphorical signpost that forms a boundary between those who are able to access the information and those who cannot, creating a visual tension over the whole of the document.

About the author

Inspired by the landscapes of hanji, which are infused with herbal medicines that she often encountered in her childhood, KWANG YOUNG CHUN began to attract
international attention with her series "Set," in which she folded old books, dyed them in various colors, and arranged them on canvases. The world has been enthusiastic about the way he expresses tradition, the accumulation of time, condensed history and human history collectively on the screen, and in 2017, he was invited by the Boghossian Foundation, an international cultural patronage organization that organized the 'Monochromatic Painting' exhibition at the 2015 Venice Biennale, to hold a solo exhibition at Villa Empain in Brussels, Belgium, and in 2019, he was invited to hold a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, one of the five major art museums in New York.
