Description of the work

  • Media Oil on Canvas
  • Location SIGNIEL BUSAN Lobby
Yoo, In-Soo's latest work begins with the question, "What criteria define the perception of beauty?" He recalls a scene from a film set in a future where AI robots coexist in everyday life: a leaf slowly falling from the sky, unnoticed by busy passersby, but detected by a robot that declares it beautiful. Focusing on this contrast, Yoo visualizes the query of what senses beauty, by what standard, and who sets that standard. In the work, elements like the leaf's trajectory, air's quiver, and subtle shifts in light are foregrounded, elevating moments blurred into the background of human vision.

This piece reveals how humans and AI sense and interpret the world differently, inviting viewers to reconsider overlooked landscapes and the latent possibilities of beauty within them.

About the author

Yoo, In-Soo graduated from the Painting Department of Seoul National University's College of Fine Arts and its graduate school and studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Dijon in France. Through urban landscapes and everyday scenes, Yoo has explored in painting how humans perceive and remember the world. In his early works, he depicted alienation and solitude of modern people using motifs of densely packed apartments and architectural structures, later expanding to scenes infused with personal narratives and emotions.

Yoo's canvases capture fleeting moments easily overlooked in daily life, condensing the emotions and traces of memory into color and form. Through this, he challenges viewers' habitual gazes and prompts rediscovery of sensations and meanings in familiar scenes.
