Philip Grözinger2025.09.09 ~ 2025.12.04

Description of the work

  • Media Oil on canvas
  • Location 2F, La Seine, LOTTE HOTEL WORLD
Philip Grözinger’s work is set predominantly in outer space, not merely because of his expertise in science fiction, but because space allows him to break free from the constraints of reality and construct a world of his own. Much like science fiction films, his imagined universes are not simple escapes but platforms for reflecting on the absurdities and social issues of contemporary life. His paintings, filled with vibrant energy and intense color, are populated by symbolic and often iconic figures such as adventurers, cowboys, and astronauts, once seen as heroic but now rendered fragile and powerless. Within these playful yet dystopian landscapes, recurring elements like white monsters, enigmatic structures, cosmic whirlpools, exaggeratedly colorful flowers, and solitary sailors in turbulent seas contribute to an atmosphere that balances innocence with despair. Drawing influence from Neo-Expressionism and Art Brut, Grözinger’s expressive brushwork conveys psychological depth, revealing a world where fleeting connections and unstable alliances take the place of permanence, and beneath the cheerful surface, a haunting melancholy always lingers.
