Slow, Same, Slow #50102
Description of the work
- Media Oilstick, Acrylics on Canvas
- Location SIGNIEL Seoul 79F The Lounge
Though his work does not depict recognizable forms, his abstract surfaces suggest vast natural spaces and subtle emotional terrains. A streak of pigment cascading downward evokes a sense of depth like a sudden void.
Moon Beom’s practice speaks not through language, but through sensation; not through intention, but through revelation. Over decades of working with his hands, he has cultivated a visual language that breathes through abstraction—a quiet yet resonant reminder of slowness, depth, and presence.

About the author
Moon is known for his distinctive technique of rubbing oil sticks directly onto the canvas by hand, creating spontaneous, non-representational forms. These accidental gestures result not in depictions of tangible objects but in atmospheric landscapes that appear as if “discovered” through sensation—images that evoke rather than define. His work persistently questions the ontology and materiality of painting.
Over the course of his career, he has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in major shows both in Korea and abroad. His work is included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Leeum Museum of Art, and Sungkok Art Museum, among other leading institutions, affirming his status as a seminal figure in Korean abstract painting.
