Description of the work

  • Media ballpoint pen and pencil on newspaper
  • Location SIGNIEL BUSAN Lobby
Choi Byung-So’s method of working is a process that lasts until the paper reaches its physical limit and can no longer be worked on as the myriad of pencil and point pen lines cover the entire surface, tearing it apart through friction. Since the 1970s, the primitive labor of Choi which has never been simplified or shortened, has been accumulated on newspaper, and through the accumulation of repeated time, newspaper is suddenly born as something other than newsprint on a physical level. Even when we know that the raw material of the final outcome is newspaper, it is no longer newsprint, but a completely different physical substance, and the articles printed on the newspaper are no longer readable and are born as a result of the “spirit” created by human intention and effort, which cannot be identified as a newspaper in the first place.
