For Jiana Kim, her work is a way to fulfill her desire to depict clay as light. Countless pieces of clay with sharp cross-sections, like thin eggshells ground into small pieces, form a microcosm on a plate, serving as a metaphor for all things in the universe. This may be a representation of the vast population of 7 billion people, or it may reflect the simple beauty of a gathering of seemingly ordinary values.
When an artist completes an artwork, it is akin to creating new life, echoing the depths of one's soul. Jiana Kim's numerous clay pieces, each with varying shapes, serve as a way to extract universal principles of beauty from the world of countless phenomena.

About the author

Jiana Kim is an artist who draws the light through clay. She began her artistic journey by drawing inspiration from light and was captivated by the infinite structural possibilities of clay. She explains that when these paper-thin fragments endure the intense heat of the kiln, they are reborn. In this process, these fragile pieces symbolize our perseverance, the tension we endure, and the scars we carry as we navigate life.

Kim had a solo exhibition at the Lee Bauwens Gallery in Brussels, Belgium. Her pieces have also been acquired by renowned luxury brands such as Delvaux, Celio, and the French stationery company Bic.
