I’m Shaking

Sohyun Ban2026.03.05 ~ 2026.05.29

Description of the work

  • Media Acrylic on canvas
  • Location 1F, LOTTE HOTEL WORLD
The series ‘I’m shaking’ reflects on the subtle trembling that accompanies living an existence that cannot be fully explained.

For the artist, ‘emotions’ are not an abstract idea but a physical experience that manifests as bodily rhythm – through heartbeat, warmth, and the vibration of the hands. This trembling is translated into the speed of the brush, the direction of gesture, and the density of paint on the canvas. Painting therefore becomes not a means of soothing emotion but a way of confronting it directly, allowing the work to emerge within the fragile tension between control and collapse, stillness and movement.

About the author

Sohyun Ban explores the moment when subtle emotional tremors are translated into painterly gestures. Her paintings emerge through intuitive and often impulsive acts driven by anxiety and instinct, leaving visible traces in the speed of the brush, the direction of movement, and the density of paint. From a distance, the compositions may appear lyrical and landscape-like, yet up close they dissolve into raw, colliding lines and restless marks that reveal the gap between perception and sensation.

For Ban, painting is not a means of resolving emotions but a process that confronts and records their trembling presence.
